When do I renew my
commercial
driver's license?
The first time you are required to renew
your CDL is on your birthday, four years after you first obtain your
commercial driver's license. You are then required to renew your
CDL every four years on your birthday. You can actually renew your
license up to one month prior to the expiration date.
When do I renew my
endorsements?
You
can also renew your endorsements every four years.
At what age can I
start driving a
tractor trailer in North Dakota?
You can qualify for an
interstate commercial driver's license at the age of 21. Intrastate
CDL's are available to those 18 years and older, though
they are restricted to driving within North Dakota only.
Do I have to take
a test to renew my
endorsement?
The only endorsement that requires you to retake
the test is the hazardous materials endorsement. You must take and
successfully pass the written exam. You must also pass a criminal
background test every time you renew.

Whether
you have had a change of address, or had a lost or stolen license,
you can visit any local North Dakota DOT to obtain a new license for
a small fee. You may be required to surrender the old license as it
is against the law to have duplicate licenses in your possession.

On average, a North Dakota company
truck driver earns 32 cents a mile and between $35,000 and $40,000
their first year of driving. The amount of money you earn can
dramatically increase the more experience you gain as a safe driver

they will give you a gas card, which you will use to fill up. The
company may have its own garage, or you may also use the card for new
tires, wipers, and other miscellaneous expenses.
